Mother’s Day Card #1: Simple Florals
For this card, I used an analogous color scheme of red, orange, and yellow. Start by creating small flower shapes with your chosen colors, using quick strokes to signify single petals.
Add warm green stems and leaves to your flowers. I wanted to keep my flowers delicate, so I mixed in some chromium oxide green for the leaves.
Add smaller single flowers, leaves, and dots to the card for a final touch.
Finally, write a quote on the right side of the card (I chose “If moms were flowers, I’d pick you”)
Mother’s Day Card #2: Bumblebee
For this card, I used black and yellow watercolors to create a simple bumblebee. Start by painting the bee’s head with ivory black. Switch between yellow and black to create the bee’s body, using loose strokes to make it feel fuzzy.
Paint the bee’s wings with a light gray color and fill them in.
Add the legs and some yellow dots design to mark the bee’s trail.
The quote I added for this card was, “Mom, you’re as sweet as can beeee”
Mother’s Day Card #3: Avocado
Start with an outline of the avocado and fade out the color.
Then, paint the seed but leave one side empty for the highlight.
Continue filling out the fleshy part of the avocado with a yellow green color.
Paint another outline of an avocado and this will be the peel. Fade out the color and fill in with a light value of the olive green color. Then, while the layer is still wet, drop in a darker value of the olive green color and leave some blank spaces for highlights. This will create that bumpy textured look of the avocado peel.
I felt like this painting needed some texture! So I added some texture by loading my brush with a runny mixture of the olive green color and tapping my brush.
Finally, I wrote the quote, “Sending you an avo-cuddle”. So cute!
